OOH Lincoln vs Curzon Ashton (0:1) FACup 4th

OH Lincoln ladies were knocked out of the FA Cup yesterday afternoon by Curzon Ashton.

Lincoln dominated much of the match, but missed a plethora of chances in front of goal - however it was Curzon who will progress to the 5th round of the Cup.

A single goal with only 7 minutes of the match remaining from Curzon's Emma Lambourne was enough to see Lincoln exit the competition at the 4th round stage.

With just 10 minutes of the match played Anna Renkin fired just over the bar missing a good opportunity to give the home side an early lead.

And with just 4 minutes of the first half remaining Carla Ward directed a powerful header from a Jodie Michalska cross just over the crossbar.

Lincoln's performance improved during the second half - the introduction of Kerry Smith on the left wing and Sophie Barker on the right saw much of the play take part in the Curzon end.

A 48th minute through ball from Barker found Amanda Barr near to goal, but the Lincoln striker fired just wide of the far post.

A powerful curling cross to the far post found the head of Kerry Smith, who headed powerfully on target, but the Curzon keeper pulled off a spectacular diving save to deny Lincoln the lead, and Megan Harris's follow-up shot in front of an open goal somehow went over the bar.

Jodie Michalska found her way round two Curzon players in the 68th minute, but once again her powerful shot was blocked by the keeper.

With 77 minutes gone Jodie Michalska flicked on a good cross from Amanda Barr to Kerry Smith - but Smith's shot hit the near post to go out for a corner.

Just 2 minutes later Carla Ward headed on target from a good cross, but the keeper was equal to it.

With just 7 minutes of the match remaining Curzon's Emma Lambourne managed to round Lincoln defender Mel Cook, she fired off a tight angled shot which brought a good save from Lincoln keeper Kay Hawke, but the ball rebounded back into Lambourne's path and she converted easily from close range.

With just a minute to go Lincoln might have saved the match - Leandra Little headed powerfully down off a corner only to miss the far post by a couple of inches and Amanda Barr was presented with an open goal from a Kerry Smith cross, but just failed to connect with the ball.

"This was a very frustrating day for us," admitted OOH Lincoln Ladies manager Rod Wilson. "There's no doubt about it, we didn't perform well today - it was a poor match for us. Even so we had so many chances to kill this match off and we didn't take them. If you squander so many chances in front of goal you are asking for trouble, and that's exactly what happened to us in this match" he said.
